Transition Dundee is host to Dundee Changemakers Hub - the Scottish Government funded Climate Hub for Dundee. It is a partnership project between four local organisations - ourselves (lead partner), ScrapAntics, Uppertunity and The Maxwell Centre. For more information about the Scottish Government's Climate Hub programme, see here.
What is the Changemakers Hub all about? When starting out three years ago the partnership recognised there were already hundreds of Changemakers all over Dundee, delivering community-led climate and social action. We didn't want to reinvent any wheels, but to help connect the dots between it all, provide networking space, make partnership working easier, and support new and existing Changemakers in whatever way they needed to increase their impact through our shared learning.
At Dundee’s hub for collective climate and social action, creative projects and big-hearted change, we dream it and build it together. Designed and delivered by our small staff team and partner organisations, we strive together for climate and social justice.
Through events, seed funding and activities across Dundee, we spark community-led projects, connect climate action that’s already happening, and amplify collective community action. Most importantly, we link in with the Scottish Government Net Zero team on policy and consultation matters, and network with other hubs across Scotland to share learning, showcasing all the amazing work taking place in Dundee. If our community is a forest, Dundee Changemakers Hub is the mycelium network that connects everyone and helps them share information and resources to grow strong and resilient together. We provide opportunities to connect at our workshops and events, help seedling projects get started and established ones grow, help our community reach their climate goals, and encourage projects testing better ways of working through our pilot projects. Our pilot project for this year is Dundee Dots, an alternative currency for Dundee. Thirteen local organisations contribute a list of things they can provide such as workshops, room hire, food, or design advice.
Dundee's Changemakers Hub provides:
-
Events and workshops to connect with others, and share knowledge and skills;
-
Practical support to new and ongoing projects;
-
Microgrants to kick-start new ideas;
-
An online platform to connect local communities and amplify voices.
Together we'll drive positive change with, by and for Dundee's communities and environment.
